The OSI Group is based in the state of Illinois and owns manufacturing plants throughout the United States and internationally (Western/Eastern Europe, South America, Asia-Pacific area, and India). OSI is the world’s largest privately owned company with a quality food product history that began in 1909 and in years past had also partnered with the McDonalds food chain. Today, food chains like Pizza Hut, Subway, McDonald’s and other restaurant styled enterprises feature quality food items produced by The OSI Group.
David McDonald, President, and COO of The OSI Group earned a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University where he majored in animal science. David was also awarded the Wallace E. Barron Outstanding Senior Award. After he graduated from college, Mr. McDonald began his apprenticeship at OSI and today he credits his time at OSI with more than 3 decades of work that he loves.
With his experience at the helm of OSI, David McDonald has led the company into many lucrative expansions like that of his work with international suppliers and retailers in China. David McDonald became quite entrenched into the Chinese corporate culture giving The OSI Group the first joint-venture acknowledgment as a “wholly foreign-owned enterprise.”
Other outstanding acquisitions have included the purchase of the popular Chicago Tyson Food plant which Mr. McDonald is quoted as saying has greatly increased the food production market within the Illinois area. When The OSI Group opens and operates its manufacturing plants, Mr. McDonald believes that it’s their goal to increase that country’s economic standing by employing many local citizens.
Mr. McDonald and The OSI Group leadership believes in partnering with local farmers for healthy food distributions. Under David’s aegis, the OSI Group has been awarded many tributes involving their leadership in the food industry, for their eco-friendly operations, for their contributions to the economic growth wherever they manage their food plants, and for the company’s quality and safety environment. For example, every year since 2013, The British government has awarded and acknowledged The OSI Group for their work in that country.
David McDonald is a benevolent philanthropist. Students who major in animal science studies, environmental issues, and agriculture are awarded scholarship funds and internships at his alma mater. Mr. McDonald has also been recognized by Iowa State with their “Emerging Philanthropist Award,” and their alumni association’s “ISU Young Alumni Award.” David McDonald and his family still reside in Illinois where he provides support to local charities and the Illinois Agricultural Learning Center which has attained international recognition.
